To Slang or not to Slang, that is the Question.

First of all, I hope to not offend anyone by this post, but this topic is on my mind, and I want to get it out! And a little disclaimer here-I am a Christian, and I am a Pastor's wife, but I am not perfect. So, here goes:

I guess you could call me a troublemaker, or a bad apple, or even a black sheep. I just seem to have this knack for stirring up some sort of conflict, (mostly just within my family, not necessarily out in public) wherever I go.

Well, yesterday I got into a bit of a ~~disagreement~~ discussion with my Mother-in-Law over a choice word that I seem to utilize quite regularly in my vocabulary. The key word is "freaking" or "freakin" i.e. "Are you freakin' kidding?" or "I am freaking mad" etc. So you basically get the point, I'm not exactly dropping the f-bomb here, but I can understand how the word could be a little offensive to some. I am not a prude to words, I can take 'em as they come, of course I don't like to expose my kids to profanity, and I definitely don't want to hear any of them cursing like a sailor, but dangit, I enjoy my slang talk!

I have come to the conclusion that I must refrain from using my "slang" vocabulary in public, and keep my potty mouth for behind closed doors only. I'm just curious if I'm the only naughty one who talks like this? And by the way, the word "fart" is used loosely in my daily vocab (I am the Mom of 3 boys, for crying out loud)!

Seth's Supporters Rocked the Walk!

Yesterday we participated in the March of Dimes walk for the fifth year with our family team, Seth's Supporters. Seth was born in August 2000, 7 weeks early, suffering from IUGR, and was extremely small at 2 lbs. 10 oz. He dropped to 1 lb 14 oz. within the first couple of weeks of his life, and went through various trials and tribulations during his four month hospital stay. These past eight years of Seth's life have been filled with blessings, as well as trials, but I am so thankful for his life!

Our team was very honored to receive 9th place overall out of all of the teams in the Arbuckle Division (which includes a good portion of the South-Central Oklahoma region) by raising $3280.00! Now compared to large corporate teams such as Mercy Hospital, and our local Michelin tire plant that raised between $15,000-20,000, ours was small potatoes! But hey, our team basically consists of myself, my Mom, my Mother-in-Law, and we rely on the help of our extended family members, and friends. So to be in the top 10 category with these other outstanding "teams" (that generally have at least 100-200 members) really rocks!

The walk itself was enjoyable, and the music, food, and fun that went along with the experience were memorable as well. I am so thrilled to participate in March of Dimes, and I look forward to doing so for many years to come!

Prayers for 2 Blog Families

The past couple of weeks I have learned of the loss of life of two infants. It is so sad, and my heart is hurting for both families. The Spohr Family live in California and lost their precious 17 month old daughter, Maddie (who was born prematurely). Then, this past weekend I learned of the Myers family and the loss of their four month old little boy, Thalon.

Both of these losses hit close to home, as they would for any mother. I am the Mother of a preemie, just as Heather Spohr, and I am preparing for my family March of Dimes Team, just as she has been for her family team. The overwhelming response from fellow Mom bloggers and supporters on the Internet have miraculously raised over $20,000 in memory of Maddie for her March of Dimes Team. This outpouring of love is awesome, and I have been amazed by all of those rallying around this family.

I am not totally familiar with all of the details of the death of Thalon, other than the fact that he had been ill. This family resides in Oklahoma, and just looking at the pictures of this sweet little baby boy brings tears to my eyes.

I have kept both of these families in my prayers, as they face the unfathomable, and I will continue to pray for them. I just wanted to express my sympathy for these two families, and remember how thankful I should be for everyday I have with my own children.

Life and a Passover Meal

Well, our lives have been quite hectic this past week. We have had an eventful past several days, filled with many occurrences, otherwise known as LIFE. Just some of the things that have taken place are the death of a childhood friend, the birth of a new baby, (on my hubby's side of the family) a revival at our church, wildfires, (that came within feet of our church, and across the road from our home) and preparation for Easter.

So, last night, after all of this, we sat down as a family and took part in our third annual Williams Family Passover (Seder) Meal, and then sat and watched The Passion of the Christ together. I have come to really look forward to this tradition, as it is really meaningful, and creates such a learning experience, especially for our older two children. So I look forward to our worship service tomorrow at church and know that I have so much to be thankful for, but the main praise I have to my Lord, is His sacrifice on the cross for my sins, it is such a beautiful thing. Here is some information about the Passover meal.

The Passover Seder Plate (ke'ara) is a special plate containing six symbolic foods used during the Passover Seder. Each of the six items arranged on the plate have special significance to the retelling of the story of the Exodus from Egypt. The seventh symbolic item used during the meal—a stack of three matzot—is placed on its own plate on the Seder table.

The six items on the Seder Plate are:

Maror and Chazeret; Two types of bitter herbs, symbolizing the bitterness and harshness of the slavery which the Jews endured in Ancient Egypt. For maror, many people use freshly grated horseradish or whole horseradish root. Chazeret is typically romaine lettuce, whose roots are bitter-tasting. Either the horseradish or romaine lettuce may be eaten in fulfillment of the mitzvah of eating bitter herbs during the Seder.

Charoset; A sweet, brown, pebbly mixture, representing the mortar used by the Jewish slaves to build the storehouses of Egypt.

Karpas; A vegetable other than bitter herbs, usually parsley but sometimes something such as celery or cooked potato, which is dipped into salt water (Ashkenazi custom), vinegar (Sephardi custom) or charoset (older custom, still common amongst Yemenite Jews) at the beginning of the Seder.

Z'roa; A roasted shank bone, symbolizing the korban Pesach (Pesach sacrifice), which was a lamb offered in the Temple in Jerusalem and was then roasted and eaten as part of the meal on Seder night.

Beitzah; A roasted egg, symbolizing the korban chagigah (festival sacrifice) that was offered in the Temple in Jerusalem and was then eaten as part of the meal on Seder night.

Kindle 2 Is What I Want!

Ever since I heard about the Kindle, I thought it sounded like something I would love to own! I love to read, and am a library junkie, totally. The thing is, I live in a rather small house with six people, so books take up too much room in our home. A Kindle would solve that issue instantly, by "housing" multiple books, available whenever I desire! When a newly released book is available, I can just click it onto my Kindle and read away. If I happen to finish reading a particular book in a series, and our local library doesn't happen to carry the sequel, (and we don't have any great bookstores in town) then I could just purchase for my Kindle, without any delays.

Busy, Busy, Busy

I feel so out of the loop. I have worked two days this week at Oak Hall (where my boys go to school) and taken Seth to Oklahoma City to get his hearing aid, so I feel like I haven't been at home hardly at all, just to sleep and run through the house cleaning up what I can as I go. I totally have respect for working Mothers with small children, after just a small taste of what that could be like, I realize how difficult it could be. I feel so fortunate to be a stay at home Mom, and I am very thankful for that.

On another note, I feel like I have neglected my blogs, and missed out on new information from my bloggy Mom friends. Of course this notion is kind of silly, as my husband always reminds me that I am not getting paid for any of my blogging (at least not in cash, not yet anyway) and that I need to plug-in to life, and turn off the computer, which is very true. So I have had a nice little unplugged couple of days, unless you count using my iPhone, which as great and wonderful as it is, it's still not the same as the real thing! I am signing off for now, we are watching a movie, and having some family time, but I will be back-Lord willing.

I succumbed to my desires, and purchased the book Naturally Thin by Bethenny Frankel, who is one of the witty Real Housewives of NYC on the Bravo series. She is by far my favorite lady on the NYC series, (which is strange, considering I would have the very least in common with her) and when I heard about her book that contains recipes, menus, and plain old-fashioned tips on "freeing yourself from a lifetime of dieting" I just couldn't resist. Being a former "skinny girl" myself, I am on a track to find out a-how to get skinny again, and b-why I became overweight in the first place. So, this week our menu will be guided by my favorite reality housewife from NYC (Bethenny) and I hope to see some results, while still satisfying my ever-hungry palate!

Spring Break Fun

We have had an interesting spring break, to say the least. We had a pretty good trip on the way, and stopped at Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. That was pretty cool, but not so great with two little ones on the long trail inside the cavern. When we arrived in El Paso, we were tired, but happy to be there. During our visit, we shopped, pigged out on good food, and talked a lot.

Also, while we were there, I had my hair trimmed and hi-lighted, and got a much needed pedicure. Overall we had a good time, and were good and worn out when it came time to head home. On our drive back, we ran into some car trouble (my Mom's 2007 Toyota Sienna) that caused us some extra stops, and slower speeds. But thank the Lord, we made it into town on Saturday evening safe and sound. I will spare you all of the details, but I am including some pictures of our trip.

Not that I have hundreds of thousands of readers or anything, but I just wanted to give a head's up that I will be going on a little road trip with my kiddos and my Mom to visit my Sister in West Texas. I will be bringing my laptop, but not sure how often I will post, if any, it might be an opportunity for me to take a little break from the net. Okay, who am I kidding, probably not, but oh well.

Laundry, Laundry, Laundry!

In a house of 6 the laundry never ends! Especially with 2 little ones that frequently have accidents and spills, the laundry just multiplies. As I am trying to become a little more green and trying to do my part to help out the environment, I try to come up with more efficient ways to get my laundry done. I heard about an awesome laundry system that is a portable washer and dryer. It is an economical, countertop system that does laundry quickly and easily. This system has been featured on many news networks and is becoming more and more popular. I would love to try it out, and see how it holds up to my rowdy groups' laundry needs! P.S. I would try this out on my little one's clothing, as it uses a diluted amount of detergent and uses pressure and warm water to get the job done, no electricity!!

My Story of Seth

I have had to gear myself up to share this story, because it can still be kind of painful to think about, and remembering all the details brings forth feelings that are still like open wounds. What brings this story to mind, is that we just had our March of Dimes kickoff lunch yesterday, and I wanted to share with everyone not only my story, but why the March of Dimes is so special to me. I believe if it hadn't been for some of the research that was funded by March of Dimes, Seth might have had an even harder battle than he already has had. I will be posting more about our March of Dime's team (Seth's Supporters) later. I believe this story is important to share, and my hope is that if it brings help to even one Mom, then it is all worth it!

When I found out I was pregnant with my second child, I didn't give the pregnancy much thought at all. I had experienced a pretty uneventful first pregnancy, and had given birth to a healthy 7 lb 9 oz baby boy (and I was quite young, at 18) with no complications. So, being a few years older, and healthy, I felt like there was no reason to be worried or concerned during this pregnancy. I went along through the first trimester, and everything was a by the book pregnancy, nothing abnormal. During the second trimester, still nothing out of the ordinary, I wasn't gaining a lot of weight, but that wasn't raising any red flags amongst myself, or my doctor.

One day, on August 17, 2000 to be exact, I had a 33 week OB appointment scheduled. As my doctor measured my stomach, a growing look of concern crossed his face. He told me that he wanted to perform an ultrasound, which immediately put me in "panic" mode. During the ultrasound, the doctor asked me if anyone had come with me to my appointment, (no one had) so after I told him no, he told me I should call my husband, because my baby was in danger. The doctor explained that I had little to no amniotic fluid left in my womb, and it appeared that my baby had stopped growing at around 27 weeks gestation. My doctor went on to say that if this baby wasn't delivered within the next couple of days, he wouldn't make it at all. I shakily called my husband, and my parents (who were on their way to take my sister to her first year of college in Tennessee, and thankfully hadn't made it but a couple of hours down the road.)

After some preliminary testing at our local hospital, (and receiving steroid shots, to help Seth's lungs mature) my doctor told us that the best option would be for me to be transferred to a larger hospital in Oklahoma City, (approximately 100 miles from where we live) where the staff would be more prepared to take care of Seth. After a speedy ambulance ride, we arrived at University Hospital (which is now called Oklahoma University Health and Sciences Center) and we were basically briefed on the situation by a neonatologist, and given the possible scenarios our unborn baby faced. At the time, I was in so much shock, that I didn't really know what to think. The ultrasound showed Seth measuring around 2 lbs-3lbs, which in the year 2000, had fairly good survival rates, but was still a scary thought!

Early the next morning, I was taken into surgery, where Seth Adam Williams was born, weighing 2 lbs 10 oz and 15 inches long. Initially, Seth was breathing on his own, with some oxygen, and we were basically facing a hospital stay that would allowing Seth to grow and become more healthy in an isolette. But as time went by, Seth wasn't growing as he should, and he went into respiratory distress at around five weeks of life. At that time he was intubated and put on a ventilator. After an ongoing cycle of Seth's continued breathing difficulties, he was eventually trached, due to an airway problem, so that he could go home without experiencing these problems. During his four month hospital stay in the N.I.C.U. we experienced so much that words can't describe, (feelings of anger, fear, sadness, and doubt,) but it was a time to trust God, because ultimately he was and is in control of everything.

During this extended hospital stay, we couldn't have made it without our Lord, but also without our loving family! Not only did everyone pull together to "help" us, but we had so many extended family members, and friends come to "stand" beside us and offer us anything they could give. I am so greatful to my Grandparents, for letting me basically live with them during the four month hospital stay, as well as my Grandma for keeping Tristan (my oldest son who was three at the time) while I spent most of my days at the hospital with Seth. Also thanks to Jason (my hubby) who spent so much time traveling to work, school, the hospital, and to see Tristan. Both my parents and my in-law's offered so much support and comfort during these difficult times as well, and I will be eternally thankful for all. I know it is only by the grace of God that we made it through!

I could write a book about all of the different situations and experiences we went through while Seth was a patient in the hospital, but I won't bore you with all of the details. As a Mother of three other "healthy" children, I can say that the experience I faced with Seth opened my eyes to so much that parents go through, and has given me so much empathy for special needs children, and families. All I can say is that Seth must have a purpose on this earth, because God surely wouldn't have allowed him to come back from the brink of death on more than one occasion, if not. Seth, who is now going on nine years old, (and fairly healthy at this point)has gone through multiple surgeries, therapies, medications, etc. but you know what, he is God's child and whatever time he is allowed to spend with us on here on earth is a blessing.

If you actually made it through this long post, then thanks for hearing me out, and I just wanted to share this story. Every time I talk about this chapter in my life, the healing gets a little more complete.

Yesterday afternoon Seth had another doctor's appointment in Oklahoma City. After the appointment I decided to take the trek to Arcadia, Oklahoma with all four kiddos to visit a restaurant/store called Pop's! Thanks to Dawn (Dawn's Diversions) I was very intrigued by the thought of visiting this Diner that also carries around 500 different varieties of pop! Needless to say, my children were pretty excited too! We had a good time, and enjoyed the old-fashioned burgers and fries, and we tried some interesting pop also.

Yes, the hundreds of glass bottles lining the walls, made me slightly nervous!

If you ever make it to the Oklahoma City area, I would definitely suggest stopping by Pops!

I had a yummy "green eggs and ham" burger, which consisted of a fried egg, green chilis, sliced ham, and a juicy beef patty!

I didn't mercilessly beg (until my hubby gave in) to get Hughes Net (ridiculously expensive satellite Internet service, which is only option where we live other than dial-up), no not me!

I didn't scarf down two king size candy bars in one sitting, nope couldn't be me!

Okay so now it's your turn, don't make me suffer alone on this, and by the way, this is my 100th post!!

7 Quick Takes

I found this neat idea of 7 Quick Takes from my friend Megan's blog, Sorta Crunchy, and decided to try it out myself! The host of 7 Quick Takes is Jennifer at the Conversion Diary, so go check out both of these lovely blogs!

1. I am so used to having a babysitter around (i.e. my Mom or Mother-in-Law) that I realized that I don't really know any official "babysitters" to call upon in my time of need!! (And yes, I know I am spoiled.)

2. I am kinda ticked off that our tax refund is wayyyy less than what we originally thought it would be, but I am very thankful to receive any refund at all!

3. I am taking an online class with a great Christian woman and speaker, Alyssa Avant, to help me with starting a Women's Ministry at our church. I feel really led in this direction and I am excited to follow this passion and get some help doing so! (Check out this program called Faith Leaps, which is just getting off the ground.)

4. I have been ditching the gym lately, and I am really not sure why. I have access to two great workout facilities, both provide childcare, and I just avoid it them both like the plague. I also have a Wii Fit, and it has been ages since I have set foot on that thing! I have gained weight, and basically abandoned weight watchers completely. I know I am dealing with some "blues" but I have to get some motivation going.

5. I really enjoy being apart of Extraordinary Moms group, where I was so fortunate to be included as a Mom Ambassador. I think this great group of gals has been an encouragement to me, and provided me with a wealth of knowledge and information on everything bloggy!

6. I am thinking about renting a big red container, you know the kind they use on construction sites, and remodels, to discard the remains from whatever construction has been done. I really want to purge our house of all of the extra "stuff" that clutters our lives. Okay, so I probably really won't, but the thought has crossed my mind.

7. I have really enjoyed drinking hot tea lately, I am normally a coffee kind of person, but the tea has had a really great flavor, and effect on me. I like the Vanilla Rooibos, and Chai, with a little milk and sweetener.

Some Inspiration from Beth Moore (and Travis Cottrell)

Some of you probably know that I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a Beth Moore Conference with my Sister last weekend. We had a great weekend, enjoyed a little shopping, some great restaurants, a movie, and most definitely the conference! Beth Moore is such a phenomenal Christian woman, and speaker, and she really lays it all out there, allowing God to use her in such an awesome way!

Everything that Beth had to say at the conference is so valid in my life! But something that really hit home for me was the fact that many times we give "people" power that only God should have. We look to mere human beings to make us feel good, instead of looking at our Father for the validation we are seeking. These people are just as broken as we are! It can seem so silly to depend on other people, such as our friends, family, or even spouses to give us the self-esteem and confidence we are seeking, but you know what, it happens everyday for many of us. Even when we don't mean to put so much stock in a person, it can happen.

I find myself feeling letdown and depressed, when I look to people for my happiness. So my goal is to daily seek Christ in everything I do, so that I honor him, and praise him in every situation. Also at this conference we got to rock with Travis Cottrell, and his great praise band. Every song they led us in, was a beautiful anthem to God! It had been awhile since I had truly participated in "praise and worship" to my Lord, and this was just the time and place.

I just want to leave you with this:

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

I just realized that Megan had bestowed two awards on me! Wow, I really need to get on the ball. Okay, the first award is the Friend Award:

For the Love of the Game

So tell me, what do you do with one Mom, one Dad, and four kiddos, when you are all at home for two "ice" days? Well, stick around and I will tell you. We have actually had pretty good days, with some housework getting done, some reading, some playing, and I'm not gonna lie, t.v. watching!

But the highlight of our "mini-break" was Tuesday night when we held our very own "family game night" with the Wii. Jason and I played against Tristan and Seth a serious game of bowling, and the boys beat us, so Jason demanded a rematch. Of course we won the rematch, (you never beat Jason more than once)! During our bowling tourny, Mika and Judah just basically watched us, and every so often almost got knocked in the head by a wild bowling swing. But Mika realized she was getting jipped (by not getting to play) somehow, and wanted to play a game on the Wii with Daddy after we finished up bowling.

Daddy obliged, and we all got to watch the two of them play baseball for what seemed like an eternity. I guess that's what happens when a three year old is trying to play "sports" games on a Wii! But it was so cute, I had to capture the moment, and share.

But overall, I really enjoyed our "ice days" and I am really trying hard, every single day to cherish the moments I have with all four of my children, at their different ages, because one day I will wake up and they will be grown.....

Girls Weekend Getaway!

Well, you have all heard me whine, and pout, about BlissDom 2009, and how I really wanted to go to this awesome blogging conference,( even as a "new" blogger! ) Well, after a conversation with my sister last weekend, and by way of a few small "miracles" I am now going on a "girls weekend getaway." (Sorry Becky I just added that part, it made it sound more interesting!) Nope, I'm not going to BlissDom, I am actually going to go visit my sister in El Paso and attend a Beth Moore Conference with her! One other detail about this trip is that it will be one of the first times I have gone somewhere by "myself" in a looooooong time, maybe like, eleven years.

So this conference falls on the same weekend as BlissDom, and of course hubby is much more happy to shell out some moola for Beth Moore, than "some blog thing". So that is the story of my exciting news. I will fly out all alone (YAY) on Friday, and come home Sunday afternoon.

Now I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression here, I will miss my children dearly, and I have already had frightful thoughts about leaving them for that long (yes I know 2 days doesn't seem long) but I trust God to protect them, and I know this time will be good for Jason to spend with the kids. Plus I hope for some spiritual renewal during this time for myself, which in turn can help me to be the best Mother I can be.

So be prepared, when you are hearing all sorts of stories about BlissDom, and viewing all sorts of fun and cute pictures, you can come to my blog instead, and read about my "girls weekend getaway!"

My New Best Friend

For those of you who are so lucky to know me in real life, (just kidding about the lucky part) then you can vouch for the fact that I can be a bit irresponsible, lazy, forgetful, and cluster-headed. Otherwise known as A.D.D. But that is another subject altogether, so moving on to the point. I have read some interesting posts lately about the use of Moleskines. I had heard of these "notebook type things" before, but just didn't give it much thought. Until now.

First, I read a great post by my long-time friend Laura, here, about her use of Moleskines. This really got those wheels turning in that brain of mine. "Hmmm, this sounds like more than your basic run-of-the-mill planner," I thought. Something I could really use to keep my life together, and quit forgetting appointments, and other important things.

Well about a day later I read a post by Jessica (who is a technological genius with multiple projects going) here, and that really was the "hammer that hit the nail on the head," so to speak. I was convinced, I needed a Moleskine, and I needed it now! Of course I didn't really "need" one, but I was sure willing to give it a try. So after much planning, and consideration, I ended up with a hardback black Moleskine daily planner.

This Moleskine of mine, has faithfully stayed in my purse, and been there (so far) to assist me in my daily life schedule, and routine. Now I just need to read and write in this Moleskine everyday for it to work to it's full potential. For a Mom of 4 kiddos, with a pretty busy life, I would say this Moleskine is a "must!" Mom Hair

If you had told me four years ago that I would have "short" hair. I never would have believed you. I would have said, "huh-uh, scissors aren't touching this head of hair!" I always used to look at my hair as a sort of positive attribute of my physicality. I thought that keeping my hair long would somehow keep me in a special "club" of sorts. Weird, I know, but I hope I'm not alone in saying this, women are constantly looking for something to "hold" on to that keeps them different (in a good way.)

I always felt that my mid-back length hair gave me a one-up of sorts, and no matter if my "skinny" jeans didn't quite fit, or if I had a zit, at least I could always fall back on that loooong hair. Well, enough analyzing the psychology of hair and what it means to me.

I now have significantly shorter hair, after getting the Victoria Beckham cut last year. (I guess I thought the hair cut would make me weigh 105 pounds like Posh.) I regularly wish for long hair again, and secretly vow to myself to NEVER cut it again, but I know that's a lie. I have transitioned to the Mom hair phase, and I will embrace it, no matter how difficult it feels.

1. Diet Coke and Coffee. I put these 2 drinks together because I love them both equally, and they both fulfill my caffeine desires. Yum and Yum!

2. Chocolate Donuts. The puffy, soft, yeast donuts, with thick, rich, chocolate icing. That could possibly be the reason I am struggling to lose weight. :-(

3. Twitter, plain and simple. I have become hooked on this social networking scheme. It is so easy to get wrapped up in reading and tweeting, and reading and tweeting, okay you get the picture.

4. My sweethearts-referring to my four children. I love to hold them, cuddle them and the two youngest still sleep in our bed with us at night! They are only young once...

5 .I have to "copy" Ashley on this one, but Magazines are a major weakness of mine. I have even devoted a whole post to being a self-proclaimed magazine junkie. I believe I have around 16 subscriptions to various publications that I have received for free through various offers, and I love to skim and read through them ALL.

Is This Cute or What?

The other day I smelled the suspicious smell of nail polish, and knew right away to expect trouble from little Miss Mika! She is notorious around our house for her hi jinks with nail polish (i.e. pink and red spots in more than one room in our house.) So I interrogated the little princess, and she feigned innocence. After a little investigation, I didn't find anything that had been branded by her and her nail polish wand, so I kind of forgot about the whole situation.

Fast forward to this morning, I was getting Mika and Judah clothes to wear, when low and behold I see Mika's new cabbage patch doll, (that she just got for Christmas) Jane, laying on the floor in her closet. Let's just put it this way, I know where the smell came from now!

And you know what, I wanted to be mad because Mika "ruined" this doll, but I think the sweet memory she gave me, is far more priceless than a $25.00 doll.

Pediped Review

My two youngest children have had a few pairs of Pedipeds, and I have always been very satisfied with these shoes. They seem to last forever, and are very durable, even when being worn by a rough and tumble toddler. Skin MD Natural Lotion Review

I have been given the opportunity to try Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion. I have personally been suffering from extremely dry hands, and cracked knuckles this winter, and I have tried many different lotions that don't keep my hands moisturized very well. When the Skin MD Shielding lotion arrived, I was very anxious to try it out, and see if it could relieve my chronic winter dryness.
First of all I noticed that the lotion had a silky feeling, and went on smooth, (not oily,) yet it also wasn't too thick and goopy. I also noticed that this lotion doesn't have a strong scent, which is a plus for many because sometimes the smell of a lotion can be too overwhelming. Another benefit of the Skin MD lotion is that it only takes a very small amount of lotion for each application. The instructions on the lotion say to apply every 2 to 8 hours until you notice the dryness start to subside, then continue every 12 to 24 hours thereafter. After the first day of use, I noticed a difference, especially in my knuckles, which had been so badly cracked. The dryness has subsided, and know my hands feel more soft and smooth.
After reading some information from the Skin MD Natural website I wanted to share the following:

I would recommend this lotion to anyone who is looking for a healing and protecting moisturizer for their skin. Yummie Tummie Review

I was fortunate enough to win a gift certificate to Yummie Tummie last month at the Classy Closet Twitter Party. I picked out the basic tank in white, (for versatility) and received it this past week! I was really excited to try out this Tummy shaping tank that even Oprah herself has raved about. Here is a quote from the Yummie Tummie website:

I have worn my tank underneath a few different types of shirts and noticed the difference for myself immediately. Under a form fitting tee, my stomach, and love-handles were smoother, and not as noticeable as they are without the Yummie Tummie. Next, I tried wearing the tank underneath a sweater, and noticed that the sweater didn't cling to the shape of my "muffin-top" area as it had before. And with a swing top, I tucked the Yummie Tummie tank in underneath the top, and felt more covered and protected, and looked slightly slimmer. Overall I don't believe that people would look at me and think that I had lost a lot of weight, or anything like that, but I do believe that it polishes off my look, and makes my mid-section appear a little more whittled. The Yummie Tummie Tank is not a miracle worker by any means, but it is a Mom's helper, in my humble opinion.

The cost is a little pricey for the Yummie Tummie, starting at $62.00 for the basic tank. I personally couldn't have convinced my hubby to let me purchase this if I hadn't won it, to be perfectly honest. This price could deter some possible buyers from making this purchase, but it might not affect others. I only found one downside to this great tank, when wearing it untucked, it occasionally rode up and I had to yank it back down in place. This was easily solved by adjusting, or tucking it into my pants/jeans.

I would highly recommend this Slimming tank top to any woman who wants to smooth out her mid-section, and reduce the "muffin-top" we all despise. I would say that the tank is worth the money you pay for it, especially if the results are "priceless."

The Queen of Spain is Starting it Right

As many of you know, my hubby Jason is a pastor of a small (and I do mean tiny) rural church, and he also works for his Dad pumping oil wells to help make ends meet. With a family of six, finances are especially tight right now. So, I have been pouting and feeling sorry for myself because we can't really afford for me to go to BlissDom in February. (For those of you who don't know about this, BlissDom is an awesome Conference for Bloggers to attend in Nashville.)

Well, I had heard through various posts about the BlogHer conference that is going on in Chicago during the summer of 2009, which is also a blogging get-together that looks very enlightening, as well as educational. This also sounded quite interesting, but I just thought all hope was gone for me to be able to attend that conference because of finances as well. But low and behold, while perusing through some top-notch online reading material, I found Erin's blog, The Queen of Spain and read that she is generously offering to pay for one bloggers registration to attend BlogHer! As any of my readers know, I am pretty new to the blogosphere, and I am quickly finding that I LOVE blogging, and reading other blogs in copious amounts. I am working on finding my own little niche on the World Wide Web, and I could definitely use the help and guidance I would receive at BlogHer. I would be extremely grateful to Erin at The Queen of Spain, if she chose me to win this wonderful "prize."

Now, as for empowering and encouraging women, I plan to continue (more vigilantly) my other blog that I originally started for our church, by beginning a daily devotion/bible study geared towards women and moms in particular. I believe that this could be used to reach women everywhere, not just in my church and community, but in other areas as well. Women need all the boosts and bites of God's word they can get, in my opinion anyway. So going to BlogHer could help me learn how to better write not only my personal blog, but my Womens Daily Devo Blog also.

New Year, New Me

The year of 2009 is fast approaching, and I must say I haven't spent a lot of time thinking about New Years resolutions or anything (like that) for that matter. I know for me, every year it is the same old song and dance, "I need to lose weight, or workout more often", but I need to face the facts, and be realistic. I have a list probably at least a mile long of things I need to improve upon in my life, or things that I need to "do". I'm not superhuman, or perfect, so I am going to work on a few things at a time and not set such unrealistic goals for myself this year. Besides, when I pressure myself to accomplish insurmountable tasks, then I totally set myself up for failure. Here are a few of my ideas on becoming the "new me" in 2009.

Become more organized, and this includes in my home, my schedule, with my children, and all aspects of my life in general. First and foremost I will start each morning with quiet time with my Lord by reading the Bible, and then spending some prayer time to lead my day in the right path and direction. I will then start by following the advice from FlyLady, who offers decluttering techniques for keeping your home organized and spic and span. I will also utilize my new day planner (yes, old fashioned pen and paper) for a daily schedule, and to remind myself of upcoming appointments and whatnot. I will also use a chore chart for my children, somewhat like this free printable one to help them stay on task. To round out my organizational plans, I will continue my Menu Plan Monday, with Org Junkie, to stay on target with our meals for the week.
Another area of concern to me is my physical health and activity. I believe I can accomplish more physical activity by committing to at least five days a week of cardio and three days of toning exercises. I'm not talking boot camp here, but I do need to get my booty in gear. I will also commit to including at least three fruits and/or green veggies in my diet daily. I have noticed recently that I can go days at a time on carbs and sugar, with no fruit in sight. This isn't healthy or balanced at all, and could cause me to feel more sluggish and run down. I will also increase my water consumption to eight glasses daily.( I can start with a nice cold 12 ounce bottle from the fridge in the morning, and refill it throughout the day.) I have joined some other ladies on MomLogic here, for a group that is to promote and encourage healthy living and a change of lifestyle.
One thing I would like to include in the year 2009 is more"paying it forward" on my part. I have participated in our family March of Dimes team for the past four years, (and plan to continue) and contributed significantly to this charity that is very near and dear to my heart. I regularly contribute clothing, toys, etc. to our local Salvation Army, which is something that isn't that difficult to do. My hubby and I also regularly give time, money and anything else necessary to our church. But I still feel the need to be more giving, even in times when cash is tight. I spend a lot of time focused on things I don't have, (materialistically at least,) that I don't think of those that really don't have food to eat, clothes to wear, or a roof over their head. I would like to contribute to Loaves and Fishes, which is a church-run food pantry in our community. On a monthly basis I will donate the needed food items on the list provided by this organization to help feed those in need. I am also considering volunteering at the Crisis Pregnancy Resource Center in our area. I have felt led to do this for some time now, and believe it is a service I can feasibly offer at least one day a month. If I come across other organizations, or situations that I feel I can help, then I will "pay it forward". I have truly been inspired by Jessica's blog and all of her fifteen days of resolutions, so I must give her some credit for motivating me to write this post.

Please feel free to tell me your ideas about the upcoming year of 2009, and if you have any hints or suggestions for me, then I am more than willing to listen. Most of all for the year of 2009 I want to be a Godly woman who lives each day as if it was my last.

The Aftermath

The day after Christmas is always kind of weird for me. It is a cluttered mess of toys, clothes, wrapping paper, gift cards, and in our house, naked barbies strewn about (thanks to my 3 year old daughter) leaving a scene of utter chaos in almost every nook and cranny of our "small" home. It is overwhelming to say the least, but it is also a feeling of a sort of let-down, so to speak. Christmas is such an exciting, fun time, a time of celebration for Jesus' birth, and a time to come together with our family and spend in a joyful accord. But after the huge buildup of emotions and even after that warm and fuzzy feeling you get inside dwindles slowly away, it is kind of a bittersweet time of finality. It is as if you have been working on gifts, sending cards, decorating, cooking, and singing carols to just end in one long day of undoing. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas and all of the hustle and bustle that comes with this time of year. I love watching my children's' faces after they open that gift they have been pining for, just as much as I enjoy seeing that initial look of *disappointment* when they find underwear or socks in their package. I love singing Christmas specials at church, and the after service fellowships with high calorie treats that everyone indulges in, even those on "diets". I love the adrenaline pumping "high" of opening that unknown gift that could or could not be what you hope for. I truly relish in thinking of Mary's moments holding sweet baby Jesus so many years ago, in such a humble place as a stable. I know that life will get back to "normal" and that things will get back to the same fast-paced flow, but right now I just sit and ponder how to keep Jesus in every part of this hectic, frazzled life. So the aftermath of Christmas isn't all bad, just different and something to appreciate like every other season in life.

Cold at the Lights

Last night Tristan, my parents, my grandparents, a few other Oak Hall Parents, and I volunteered to brave it in the 20 degree weather for close to 5 hours at the Lights in the Park! We stood at the end of the light tour and passed out candy canes, and took donations. We had a great time, but by the end of the night we were about frozen solid. :-) Just thought I would share, and Tristan was a little bit cranky by the end of the evening! And no, I don't have any pretty pictures of the lights.

Mika and "Elizabeth"

We were invited to a friends 6th birthday party this weekend, so on Monday we set out to find a gift, which ended up being a daunting task. Mika was very "helpful" in lending her opinion on what we should buy for Jamie. After a long deliberation we purchased a cute little "Fur Real" Dalmatian pup that looks and sounds like a real puppy, and has it's own little bottle. Mika has been quite enamored with this little dog for the past few days, which eventually led up to the removal of said pup from it's box. After I realized the damage was done, I just decided to let Mika keep this cute little puppy, and we got a different present for Jamie. The cute part about this situation (after Mika got her butt busted for sneakily opening the toy) is that Mika has been carrying this pup around and taking care of it so well that you would think it was a baby doll. She has named her puppy Elizabeth, which is pretty precious, to me anyway. (I wonder who she named it after?)

Classy Closet Twitter Party Fun!!

I've been really getting into Twitter lately. If you haven't signed up yet, you should, (and if you do, my username is lizzydear so follow me) or at least just check it out anyway! I have also joined two Ning social networks, one being MomLogic (there is an awesome Christian MomLogic group, as well as tons of other great groups) and the other is The Classy Closet (which is a little different, but has some fun groups as well). Tonight there was a "twitter party" for The Classy Closet, and I joined in on the fun! There were some games, and prizes, and I got to "chat" with a few ladies I hadn't met before. Overall it was a great time, but the most exciting thing of all is that I won a prize!!! I won a Yummie Tummie prize valued at $100.00. Apparently this is a tank top type thing that celebs use, (and Oprah endorses) to get rid of "muffin top". This is something I wouldn't normally purchase for myself (even though I could use it :) but I am elated to have won!

The Classy Closet also has a blog radio show that is really funny, (with three ladies- Jen, Kadi, and Danielle, hosting every morning, Monday-Friday, at 11:00 am CST) and I try to listen to that if I am at home and able. On January 9, 2009 they will host a special show with tons of giveaways, and special guests, including actress Vanessa Williams!

Gingerbread Review

Today Seth's 2nd grade class presented the Gingerbread Review! It was really cute, and involved poems, stories, and songs all revolving around the gingerbread theme. Then they served us hot cider and none other than gingerbread men! The class has been working hard for this event, and they even had a homemade present for all of the parents. Mika and I went to watch, (Jason, and Judah were out checking wells) and really enjoyed ourselves. I am so thankful for teachers that care so much about the children they teach!

Last night while we were at the YMCA for Seth's basketball practice, (which lasted about an hour and a half!) Mika and Judah got a little bit bored. For the first 30 minutes, I left them in the child watch center, and got in a little treadmill time. But after they called me on the loud speaker to get Mika to take her to the bathroom, I just decided to keep the little ones out with me to watch Seth practice. That didn't last very long, considering Judah tried to run onto the court and "play" ball with the big kids, and Mika layed down on the gym floor! So, we sat in the hallway, across from the aerobics room for about an hour. Zumba class started, and let me tell you, it was quite entertaining. (I have taken this class once at my other workout place, and it is a Latin dance inspired class and quite fun!) Mika really wanted to go in the room and join the class, so she just followed along at the doorway, doing the best she could to keep up with the class! It was so cute, I couldn't help taking a picture, oops I didn't even get a picture of the basketball "star" Seth. Oh well, next time!

This week our family is making a consorted effort to eat more healthily, and so our menu will include more veggies, and lean meats. So here goes:

Monday-Veggie Burgers on toast, and baked potato fingerling's

Tuesday-Beans, brown rice, and Low fat shredded cheese

Wednesday-Baked Potato bar, with turkey chili, low fat cheese, onions, and other veggies

Thursday-Baked Pork Chops, quinoa, asparagus, broccoli, and green beans

Friday-Smothered Steak in crock pot, with potatoes, and carrots and salad

Saturday-Cheeseburger soup, and homemade wheat rolls

Sunday-Christmas program at church (potluck)

Today my hubby (Jason) finally graduated from SOSU with his Bachelors degree. He has been busy supporting our family for the past 9 years, so he has put his education on the back-burner so to speak. But the past few semesters he has really buckled down and finished up, so I am proud of him, and thankful that he has closed this chapter in his life. The 1 1/2 hour graduation ceremony wasn't exactly the most fun thing for 4 little ones to sit through, but we made it without too many mishaps. I need a new camera, I couldn't get hardly any good shots of Jason walking across the stage! :(

And did I mention we sat right behind the orchestra?

I was reminded this morning of how thankful to be for each day that I am alive. This morning while driving the boys to school, we ran into a deer. We were driving along, we had actually just gotten off the phone with my nephew Braden, (wishing him a Happy B-day!) when we felt a strong impact, and heard a loud thud. At first I thought we had run over something, like a log, but I really knew we had hit something. So I stopped the vehicle, and got out to assess the situation. The damage to our SUV is nothing to "cry" over, and the deer died, (it is still there) but throughout all of this I was just reminded how quickly my life and my children's' lives could have been over. So today just want to say thank you to God.

By the way, at least I didn't include a picture of the dead deer. :(

Exciting News!

I guess I got your attention now, but you will probably be disappointed when you find out what my title is actually referring to. Our little rinky-dink town got a NEW movie theater with stadium seating, and lots of cool concession snacks, and even eight screens. (WOW) Now those of you who live in metropolitan cities where you have multiple megaplex cinemas will not understand my excitement. But if you happen to be from a *small* town, then you can appreciate this news. Whenever a new store, or restaurant comes to our community, it is a major deal. The people of this town will come out of the woodwork to be the first to eat at Whataburger, or go to the Dollar Tree! Now you kind of get the picture, hopefully. Tomorrow night Jason and I are planning on going to the premiere opening of this great wonderful Carmike 8 Theater in honor of our anniversary. So I'll shut up now, and quit boring everyone!

I signed into my One True Media account tonight, and pulled up a really cute slide show I made for Mika on her first birthday. I know I am biased, but she was just so darn cute! Time flies by so fast that I am reminded tonight to not forget to cherish the moments before they grow up.....

This morning I was reading through an article I received in an email from Terri Maxwell that had some excellent scripture references in it for children and issues that they face. I thought I would share some of these verses with everyone, and then make sure you look into Steve and Terri's website. They have some really neat resources for Christian parents, as well as a monthly Mom and Dad's Corner Article, and information about homeschooling.

Child is bickering with a sibling or being unkind:Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering. (Colossians 3:12)

Child is angry:But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. (Colossians 3:8)

Child is unhappy:Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. (Philippians 4:4)

Child is worried:Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Child isn't content:Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. (Philippians 4:11)

Child says, "It is too hard," when asked to do something:I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4:13)

Child isn't being kind to his siblings:Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. (Colossians 3:12-13) Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil. (1 Corinthians 13:4-5)

Child is lying:Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. (Colossians 3:9-10)

Child isn't obeying:Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. (Colossians 3:20)

Child is proud:. . . Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. (1 Peter 5:5-6)

Not only would these be great for my children, they are definitely applicable to my life as well!
